Black Bear Cub: -Ursus americanus-
Birth: Cubs are born in January or early February. Birth Weight: 8 oz. to 1 lb. at birth. Full Weight of Cubs: By their first fall the cubs may weigh from 15 lbs. to more than 165 lbs. depending on food supply. Parental Care: Cubs usually stay with their mother for 17 months. Mother bears stop traveling with their cubs when the they're ready to mate again. Habitat: Primarily forest and swamps; in west, forest and wooded mountains seldom higher than 7,000'. Range: Most of Alaska southeastward through Canada to N. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Eastern states include New England, New York, and Pennsylvania. West coast through N. California.
